History & Memories

During my 2006 visit to Harold Oliver Primary School, a playground on which I would often go to play as a child, I was dismayed to discover that they'd removed the monster truck-sized tires that once stood vertically along a fence. Fixed to the ground, these tires could be climbed -- the tread made an excellent ladder -- and, to my knowledge, were still there just a few years ago. Why they are gone now, I do not know. Not every piece of play equipment from my childhood days was gone, however; the tall slide, a large seesaw-type log, a metal climber, and a set of metal parallel bars and a balance beam were still there, twenty years later. Everything else was new (or in the case of one dilapidated tire swing, not so much) but I was glad to see that some of my favorite things had withstood the test of time. Barely.
